Things to Do

Comrie (Place of the river confluence from the Gaelic) is a conservation village with a long history at the meeting of the Rivers Earn, Ruchil, and Lednock. It is also known as the “Shaky Toun” for its history of local earthquakes. Equidistant from Edinburgh and Glasgow, and from Perth and Stirling - it is an ideal base for exploring Perthshire, the Highlands and beyond.

The village has a wide range of local businesses, places to eat, visitor attractions. The focal point of the village is the historic “White Church” now used as the “Comrie Community Centre” and Melville Square with the Royal Hotel, a former coaching inn given its name by Queen Victoria and the renowned Charles Rennie Mackintosh building.

 

Comrie offers all the amenities you would expect such as butcher, green grocer, convenience stores, pharmacy, baker, deli, and post office/newsagent, and a public library.

There are a variety of local eating establishments in the area, specialising in local produce and hearty dishes. Within the village are:

 

  • Hansens Kitchen - a small deli and cafe

  • The Comrie Fish and Chip Shop - traditional Scottish fish and chips

  • The Deil's Cauldron -  restaurant and wine bar

  • The Comrie Hotel - with newly refurbished bistro

  • The Royal Hotel - good quality restaurant and historic pub

  • The Auchingarrich Wildlife Park Restaurant

 

There are numerous other restaurants, cafes and takeaways in nearby Crieff and St Fillans.
